Connect a Bluetooth printer
Pair a printer with your till tablet and set it up in Dinerly.
Bluetooth suits a printer that sits right next to the till, such as a counter receipt printer or a small kitchen printer a couple of metres away. It needs no network at all, and because everything happens between the tablet and the printer, it carries on working when your internet is down.
Step 1: pair the printer with the tablet
This first step happens in the tablet’s own settings rather than anywhere in Dinerly:
- Switch the printer on and put it into pairing mode, which usually means holding a button down. The card that came with the printer will say which one.
- On the tablet, open Settings → Bluetooth.
- Find the printer in the list and tap it to pair. If you are asked for a PIN
it is usually
0000or1234, and again the printer’s own card will confirm it.
The reason this has to come first is that Dinerly can only offer you devices the tablet has already paired with. If the printer is not in the tablet’s Bluetooth list, there will be nothing for you to choose in the next step.
Step 2: add it in Dinerly
- On that same tablet, go to Settings → your location → Printers.
- Click Add Printer.
- For Printer Name, use whatever your team calls it, such as Counter or Kitchen.
- For Connection, choose Bluetooth.
- For Bluetooth device, pick the printer from the list of paired devices.
- If the printer also has an internet connection, add its Sunmi serial (SN) so that receipts fall back to cloud printing when this tablet is switched off.
- Save, and then click Test print.
Things worth knowing about Bluetooth
- The pairing belongs to one tablet. It lives on the device that did the pairing, so if you replace that tablet with a new one, you will need to pair the printer again from scratch.
- The range is short. Bluetooth only reaches a few metres, and walls and kitchen equipment shorten it further. If printing works sometimes and not others, distance is the first thing to suspect.
- A Bluetooth printer talks to one device at a time. Pairing it with a second tablet will not give you two tills that can both print to it.
If the list is empty
Seeing No paired devices found means the tablet is not paired with any printer, so there is nothing for Dinerly to list. Go back to step 1 and pair it in the tablet’s own settings, because Dinerly only ever reads that list and cannot create the pairing for you.
