Open orders, voids and reprints

Find an order you parked, reopen a paid one, cancel a bill, and print the kitchen ticket again.

Tapping Orders on the till shows you everything that is on the go at the moment, split into two tabs:

  • Open holds the bills that have been started but not paid, which means the tables that are mid-service, the takeaways sitting on the counter waiting to be collected, and anything you tapped Save on earlier.
  • Paid holds the orders that have already been settled today.

Pick an order back up

Tap an open order and choose Pay if the customer is ready to settle, or Reopen if you need to carry on adding to it. Open orders are shared across all of your tills rather than being stuck on the device that created them, so a bill that was started on the bar till can be finished on the one by the kitchen.

Because they are shared, two members of staff can end up looking at the same bill. If it has already been closed on another till by the time you try to take the money, your till tells you instead of charging the customer a second time.

Void a bill

Void cancels an order that should never be charged for at all, such as one rung up in error or a customer who walked out before they ordered anything. To do it on the till, open the bill, go to Actions, tap Void bill and confirm.

If the kitchen has already been sent the items, a manager has to approve the void with their PIN. That is because voiding at that point means food has actually been cooked and is now being written off, which is a decision somebody should be accountable for.

It is worth being clear that voiding is not the same as refunding. A void is only for an order where no money changed hands. If the customer has already paid, you need a refund instead, because the money has to go back to them rather than simply disappearing from the order.

Refund from the till

For an order that has already been paid, open it in the Paid tab and tap Refund. If you have refunded part of that order before, the button says Refund more instead, so you can see at a glance that something has already gone back. The rules are the same as a refund done from the dashboard.

Reprint the kitchen ticket

Tickets get lost in a busy pass and printers jam at the worst possible moment. When that happens, open the bill, go to Actions and tap Reprint Kitchen Ticket. It prints exactly the same ticket again without sending anything new, so the kitchen will not accidentally cook the order twice.

If you need to give the customer their receipt again, use Print Receipt in the same menu.

Discard what you’re holding

Discard order throws away the bill you currently have on screen, and it only works on what has not been sent. Anything the kitchen already has cannot simply be discarded, because the food exists — that has to be voided instead, with a manager’s approval if the kitchen has started on it.
